Our Family Adoption

Who Can Adopt?

A child needs to live in a home that is happy, safe and secure. For this reason, unfortunately, there are some people who cannot adopt children.

I am sure we can all think of people who would be unsuitable (such as a convicted sex offender or someone with a chaotic lifestyle or relationships).

There are a lot of misunderstandings about who can and who can’t adopt.

A lot of people think that they must be married to adopt a child. This is simply not the case. In fact, most groups of people are eligible to adopt including:

Many people are put off applying for adoption because they fit into a category other than married heterosexual or they feel their age would be a barrier, this really isn’t the case, every one is treated as an individual, a lot of the things you think will be a barrier really are not!

There are so many children in desperate need of a home; it is a great shame that many miss their chance of a loving family because of misconceptions about suitability for adoption.

"You have been such a comfort to me these past months. Calm, down to earth, helpful and sensible, unlike some. Thank you!"

Training

Training will give you an opportunity to get to know us and help us to get to know more about you. This involves a two day course, usually with up to three other potential adoptive families. It is run by a highly specialised adoption worker who will address all areas of the adoption process. The course is designed to be friendly and informative, and is an opportunity to discuss any questions and concerns you may have. It can take place at a location which is convenient for you and will also give you an opportunity to meet other potential adopters who are sharing the same experience.

Should you want to go ahead with adoption we have a comprehensive training package that will give you all the information you need and help to clarify any issues and answer any questions you may have.  Our training covers:

We believe in the potential adopter working with us to make a great placement possible.  A big part of this is giving you all the information you need.
